How do you know if you're Conservative, Moderate or Liberal?
Closed

When a survey asks what political party I identify with, that's an easy question...but then they want to know if I'm Conservative, Moderate or Liberal. What does that actually mean? I usually answer Moderate to be on the safe side. I might have a Liberal view on one issue; but a Conservative view on another. Is that what they are asking? For example, let's say the issue is granting amnesty for illegal alliens. I'm totally opposed to that. Does that make me a Conservative on that issue? Would appreciate any feedback.

in the past years, when the world has divided in two pieces, the lines were clear, but now there isn't anything common with that period, the world changing every second, and personally i hate to stuck on me labels

there are areas.. if you are conservative on one economic factor you tend to be on all economic issues. but you might be liberal on the social issues or foreign affairs. and again liberal on some social issues usually means liberal on most or all

They usually want to know how you are registered. Especially now, because many people feel like you do, divided on many issues. It is almost impossible to be 100% of anything anymore.

When you put it that way (and by using your example), I am in total agreement with you. I also feel that I am liberal on some issues and conservative on others.

I've wondered the same thing and I'm like you when it comes to this issue. Unless a specific topic is under deliberation, I choose the "moderate" label. Like you, I have different views on different issues, so I figure that they probably end up balancing out on either end of the scale!

I agree that I do not like being labelled one way or another since my views change depending on the issue.

I have an even better answer for ya on this topic, just tell them what I tell them. I am Canadian, so that finishes any political debates anyone would ever want to start with me. I do not mean to make little of the various political parties of the states, but every country has the same differences, I just do not like to get too much into it on toluna in case I upset someone who is politically minded.

It all depends on the issue that is being reviewed. It is not always easy to be moderate for everything.

I check none if there is that option. If not I would say moderate also , for the same reasons you put it
