What do you think of Valentines' Day?

I think it is highly overrated. It's ok for lovers or newlyweds but come on-all thise sappy commercials on TV make the rest of depressed because we don't have a lover or at least a lover that gives us a gorgeous diamond necklace for Valentines' day. As you get older it doesn't mean as much especially if you've been married for awhile. I buy Valentines' presents for my grandkids to tell them I love them but as for my husband-I'd rather he show his love every day in the little things he does than spend money we don't have on candy or flowers.

We don't each other anything for Valentine's day. We can't afford to spend the money for every holiday.

As a widow, it hasn't meant much to me for many years. It has definitely become commercial. I felt like Valentines Day many days during my 20 yrs. of marriage. He was very romantic and a beautiful man. I do focus on my grandchildren on that day now and enjoy that.

Like everything else, Valentine's Day has become too commercialised. Whereas years ago, it was a day when you did something romantic because you wanted to, now you are made to feel pathetic and abnormal if you choose not to celebrate it. Personally I don't celebrate it but then I have only been in a relationship on Valentines Day once in 1997 and then there wasn't so much pressure and i did buy my girlfriend a single rose, chocolates, card and a present (can't remember what it was now!) x

I have been married for nearly 3yrs and never had a valentines' card from my hubby as he does not celebrate it. I sent him a card and a text as he is abroad but he just replied 'same to you' lol

I do not celebrate Valentine's Day anymore. It used to be special with my husband buying me a nice spring bouquet of flowers or taking me out to a nice restaurant, but like all the other 'special' days throughout the year it is way over commercialized now so we will feel we must buy this and that.

I have to agree with you. The grandkids get a gift, but as for my husband I dont go and buy him anything. We have been married for 33 years now and Valentines Day is just a day for the retailers. although my husband did buy me some roses this year, which was a nice surprise. I will bake some cookies for him.
