What is the difference between families these days and family life when you were growing up? Are families stronger and better now or better back when?

Do you think family life has improved over time or gotten worse? What do you believe is the reason for the improvement or decline?

Families were stronger, better and closer back when. Today families are always on the run and hardly have time to spend together. So-called 'soccer-moms' are dropping the kids here and there practically every day. This is very stressful on each member of the family. I would love to go back to the 1950s when life was calm, quiet and much slower paced. Families did things together, ate meals together and spent a good deal of time together. I think that family unit was much healthier and stronger than what we have today. There were family ties back then that don't seem to matter much any more.

When I was growing up, everyone came to our mother's for Christmas dinner. It does seem like the holidays are more hap-hazard these days, because some plan trips instead. It does get harder to get everyone together.

I grew up in the 50's when family was everything. Things were so much simpler. There were only 3 channels on TV, no computers..

I families are in trouble and may be on the brink of extinction. There is so little cohesion in families now.

I think it is much harder for families now days. When you go back several generations, many times the mother did not have to work and the kids did not have to be at a sitter. I had to work when my kids were growing, but we lived on a farm/ranch and they really had lots of responsibilities. Kids who live in town and their parents work do not have the opportunities mine did. I hated working, but just like the mothers who are having to work now, I had no choice if we were going to make ends meet. I don't really see that it is anyone's fault, it is just the way the economy is right now.

The lifestyle of families today is too busy and too hectic and they need a slower pace to really enjoy things.

It seems like families nowadays don't really have a lot to do with one another - at least not in person - everyone just texts their family members instead of spending time with them. I think quality family time went out the window when the computer age started. Ask yourself when you actually saw kids outside playing in yards?

Life today is way to hectic. People pay more attention to the cell phones and texting than people, realtionships and their immediate families. There it too much "fast food" - we ate our meals at home and mom did the cooking.

My family life was pretty good growing up. Today you see far more divorces I think. I know, I'm lucky my parents are still married.

In today's world both parents have to work in order to provide for their families. When I was growing up my mother was always at home. Things are truly different and there is much more pressure and stress in life today as well!
