What is the smallest animal on earth?

Strictly speaking, the smallest animal in the world would be an amoeba. Amoebas are unicellular organisms, which means they are comprised of only a single cell and are classed in the animal kingdom under Protozoa. So, technically speaking, Amoebas are actually animal-like protists classifed in the kingdom Protista, and thus not animals.

In my own humble or not so humble opinion, plankton are the smallest animals on earth. They are small. That is possibly why the Plankton with one eye was used on the highly successful Nickelodeon Spongebob Squarepants cartoon tv series. The fact that he does anything is amusing and ridiculous; they make many funny circumstances with his smallness always making it funny. I also would not consider fleas or lice because they are not good in any way for the human and I consider them a pest as well.

In an opinion, which by definition toluna calls itself people, opinions, and polls... I consider the ant the smallest animal on earth. It is on land, walks, and can be seen by humans yet is very small. It does not fly; nor am I considering anything that lives in water. Fleas and lice are nasty and I do not consider them animals; they are pests.
