Why are Doctor's appointments always late ?

They tell you to be there 15 mins before and then they have no respect for your time. Then they get mad if you show up late. I now give them 30 mins and then I walk out !!

Doctors are very arrogant people. I have scheduled myself as the first appointment of the day and the doctor has shown up to work 30 minutes late and didn't care

HMO's force them to schedule appointments every 15 mins and the longer the day, the more they get behind,

I HATE THAT! I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. It seems that they schedule TOO many people in one time slot. WHY do they have to scedule people 10 minutes apart? People run late and that holds everyone up. I had switch doctors JUST BECAUSE of this. NOW, the doctor that I have I can have a 9:00 Appointment but, I would get there 20 minutes early. Then I would be leaving out at 9:20. Not bad at ALL. One time my doctor was late seeing me because, he had a patient that was after me but, he had to be seens first because, while there that patient took VERY ill and the doctor went to see about him and called an ambulance so he can be transported to the hospital. THAT I can understand.

I've heard that the insurance companies force them to schedule appointments every 15 mins regardless of how long it takes. The ones that bother me are the first appointment of the day - no excuse for that one.

I have noticed that a lot of doctors are late. I had a gynecologist explain that he might be late because he could be called away to deliver a baby. I can understand that happening. What I don't understand is how an optometrist is late when you are there first appointment in the morning. I have taken my son to the optometrist and the doctor has always been late. 95% of the time we have the first appointment and she is always late. Once we were late and she was still later than we were.

Yes, this is really annoying. You have an appointment and you always have to wait. I've been late to work because of this, it's very annoying.

I worked in a doctors office for several years and here are some observations. Part of the problem is that patient's come in with more problems than they stated over the phone while making the appointment. This means that no enough time was scheduled for the patient and the doctor and staff need more time in exam and care of that particular patient. It is not only frustrating to you, the patient, but also to the staff as this puts them behind. Also when you have to schedule any procedures, scans, or surgery that takes extra time also. I agree it is very frustrating but I am willing to wait if I know that my doctor will then take the necessary time to listen, examine, and counsel me on my particular problem.

If I gave my doctor only 30 minutes, I would never get to se her. She gives me as much time as I need, as she does all of her patients. So, I am willing to wait. I know the routine and just plan to be there a long time and I take along a book to read. Next month, I plan to write my Christmas cards while waiting. I wonder what message she will get from that.
