Mo more checks at Bank of America!

Did you hear about this? My 81-year-old mother has her primary checking account with Bank of America. As of last month, you can no longer write a physical check on your checking account! I think that is appalling. My mother spoke with customer service and apparently customers' checks are bouncing all over the place because checks are no good...for a checking account!

How does a checking account no longer allow using paper checks? That makes no sense unless its one of those Money Market savings accounts that allows you to use a few paper checks per month. I used one of those several years ago before I stopped using paper checks altogether. Reply

Luckily, I read all the comments before responding....it would be crazy to do away with paper checks for a checking account. I don't write many anymore, but you still need them sometimes. I've never been a customer of B of A, and I never would. I've never heard anything good about them. Your mother might be better off at a small local bank that cares more about their customers. Reply

I read your post and your comment. Either way that is horrible and I don't blame her for moving her accounts out of that bank. Reply

I checked with my mother, and she was mixed up. Those of you who said it was only for their SAVINGS accounts are correct and I apologize. My mother, however, is still very upset and is moving her money to Chase. Reply

HATE Bank of America from an incident years ago when they tried to get a Security Supervisor friend of mine fired at work because of being overdrawn on his account--and he didn't even have an account at Bank of America! That being said, this is appalling, because why else would a bank be in business than to help you manage your money??? Reply

It applies only to B of A savings accounts which allowed the account holder to write checks on that type of account. Standard checking accounts are not affected. Reply

Been wanting (banks) to do this 7 yrs ago..will see how other banks follow suit! Too costly for banks to continue with paper cost, want a different form…bitcoins into account set form. Yes, the older generation of our age is getting wiped out with this newer generation! Reply

So what is a person to do if they need to pay a service person or company who doesn't accept credit cards .... pay them major bucks in cash? For instance, we recently had a tree removed to the tune of $475. He wanted a check; would not accept a credit card. Our neighbor gave us a summer's worth of checks for the man who cuts their grass while they spend the season up north. I really wouldn't want that much of her cash sitting in my house waiting to be doled out to the grass cutter. And our county charges a hefty surcharge if we pay property taxes (cars and home) by credit card. Would I have to pay $2,000+ in cash to avoid the surcharge? I don't write that many checks but I sure hope other banks won't follow. Reply
