Florida Governor Ron DeSantis: Florida to send law enforcement to Mexico border to combat immigration crisis

A week or more ago Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent a joint letter to the governors of the 48 other states asking them to send additional law enforcement staff and resources to help patrol their states' borders with Mexico.

In response Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that Florida will send its own law enforcement officers to the Mexican border in Arizona and Texas to combat what DeSantis called a "created crisis" at the southern border that he claims has led to increased criminal activity in Florida.

Sheriffs from Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Lee, Bay and Brevard counties attended the press conference and stood behind the governor as he spoke. The sheriffs from the seven counties have volunteered to send deputies and officers to the border, and DeSantis said he hopes more Florida counties will step up as well.

We are seeing a lot more crime that is not organic to Florida coming to the panhandle. Not a pleasant thing for our communities to deal with.

It isn't clear what exactly the Florida officers will be doing at the border or how the mutual aid agreement will work out legally, logistically or strategically.

Do you have any opinion on this matter?
Do you think they can help?
Is your Governor sending your sheriffs/police down to the border?

Well, since our new dictators will not help the crisis they created, I am glad good Americans are taking matters into their own hands. Reply

I would like to see the "traffic" stopped at the border, until the people that are trying to get in at least meet with law enforcement and/or medical people to make sure they are not bringing any diseases into our country that we do not expect. Reply

It's a definite problem and if the federal government can't provide adequate help then states must band together to try to work on the problem. Reply

Whatever they can do to help our border crisis, I'm for it. It is out of control, thanks to Biden and Kamala. After months of ignoring the border crisis, she has finally agreed to go this week She is our border Czar. As if that will do any good. Reply

I don't see how law enforcement from one state (Florida) would have any authority in another state (AZ, TX) or authority at the border. Agree with @riviera911477 - let them handle their own crime in Florida. Reply

Not sure...let's wait and see what they can do to help. I would think that if there is that much crime in Florida, that the officers should stay there and address it there. Reply
