That must have hurt :-(

I have just heard on the news that a couple from Hertfordshire lost out on an EuroMillions Jackpot of £182million when their numbers came up on 26 February this year, but their direct debit failed to go through. The account the money was paid from did not have the funds, so it was not paid. Even the lottery app was telling them they had won, the one partner only found out when she rang the number, and they informed her the money for the ticket had not been paid. You have to admire the couple they are being very stoic, they are going to keep playing having now changed their numbers.

I very much doubt I would have been able to handle that level of disappointment so well done to them. To be honest I have never won anything on the lottery, but that was just what I had expected.

Do you play the lottery, and do you win very often ?

Hubby insisted we buy a Euromillions if the total was over £75m. Frankly, with the luck I have, I consider it a win of £2.50 to not buy the ticket in the first place. Reply

I play it irregularly: I've found that whenever I have a break for a few weeks, I have a run of wins when I recommence playing ... For some reason!? (Serendipity, no doubt...!)
The last time, I hadn't had a win for weeks, so I stopped bothering for about a month, and when I then started up again I won at least a Free Lucky Dip on every ticket for a fortnight!... It tends to make one a wee bit suspicious...! :0
As for the couple in your question - im not sure how well their relationship will survive this kind of shock. If it's a joint account they'll blame each other... If it's one of thems own current a/c, the other will feel so resentful and furious, yet be unable/unwilling/unjustified in accusing or blaming them for the lapse....
I don't think the effect will come close to becoming apparent for weeks yet. This isn't something which you understand or realise or accommodate in a few days....

26 is an unlucky number; I have many a time found it to be. Reply

I don't play the lottery Chris but if that had happened to me I would have been devastated. :-o Reply

That had to hurt!
I play occasionally and fail to win, roughly, the same number of times. :-)

We ceased playing when the cost doubled ~ however, we did quite often get 3 or 4 numbers up and win smaller amounts ~ hardly what we wanted to win !
So we stopped !!
I think that "unlucky" couple have handled it quite well; after all, it's only money !!!
