Family Reunion: The Zoom Way!

Christmas is fast approaching and our family started to plan on how we will spend our traditional family reunion because of this pandemic. Every December 31, we have our family reunion but this time, we fear it would not be possible although we are under the GCQ.
Most of the time, we had video call through our group chat via Messenger. The problem is, only 8 persons can be seen at the video.
Then, one of my nephews thought of using Zoom app. Through this, all of us family member (31 in all) could see and participate in the video conference. The problem is, not all of us knew how to use Zoom, specially the senior citizens and that includes me. There was one time, I can’t hear their voices or sometimes, they would tell that I was not in the video. In our family, there are five senior citizens, me, my brother, my sister, my uncle and my mother. Funny thing was, oftentimes, we see my mother either half of her face, her forehead only, her hair or sometimes, her neck. My uncle, on the other hand, hindi gaano marinig yoong pag-uusap, kaya madalas, parang nakikipagusap lang sa phone at kita namin sa video yoong tenga nya.
Nonetheless, time will come, mapaplantsa namin ang paggamit nito. We have already tried the bato bato pik (rock, paper, scissor) and it worked. Nothing can stop us from doing our traditional family reunion – this time, family reunion the zoom way!

(Sad to say, I failed to screenshot our zoom meeting)

Nice for you to have Zoom and reunite with family. But for our family, videocalls is the only way we can see each other and stay connected as always. Reply

The problem with Zoom is if you are not a registered and paid user, you are limited to 40 minutes only. I use Google Duo or Meet because they are free and unlimited time. If there only a few of you, FB Messenger is ok. Having so many participants will make the screens smaller and you will not really be able to see, hear and talk to each other. You may also need to put proper lighting so that the picture is clear. You need to adjust the webcam or phone camera so that the camera is aligned to your face. If improperly positioned, you will get a shot of your chin or forehead. Wear an earphone to get better sounds and use a microphone to speak. This is based on my experience. Reply
