The Things We Do...

Yesterday I went to a store to purchase bagels. A black lady entered the store stood and two of the workers started to laugh. The lady turned around, gave them the side eye and they stopped laughing. She made the purchase using her app and the cashier gave her bag as if he scorned her.

I turned and told her she needed to report the incident because what they did was disrespectful and most likely will do it again to someone.

If there are any African-Americans here who have been made to feel uncomfortable please share.

That is really rude. I would review them poorly on Yelp. That was not called for. Sorry to hear you had to witness that and the lady going through that. Reply

That sort of thing was poor manners on the part of the store employees. If she does nothing you need to report what happened to the manager. You should also, go onto a website that reviews restaurants and businesses and give the place a nasty review. Remember that next time this could happen to a white person due to his/her religion or a visible disability. Reply

Agreed w/crief32. It’s a constant situation as an African American woman. From strangers, store staff, & police officers (few rude ones), to colleagues & acquaintances.
The ignorance in the US brings out blatant racist superior behavior; so bad that people don’t understand their own hatred to a race that they’ve probably never communicated with on various levels. It’s fear of the unknown, hearsay, stigmas, stereotypes.
Side but relevant note: This generation is fed up & is lighting a fire under those in power. Thank you for your post.

This is terrible, people that do things like this have not been raised right. Seniors are often treated badly also, some store clerks are impatient and act like they don't want to be bothered with us. Reply
