The missing persons case of Madeleine McCann, one of the most renowned in British history, resurfaced this week after a new suspect was identified in relation to the youngster's disappearance in 2007.

Thirteen years later, the family and the world still look for answers to what happened to the girl at the tragic heart of this case and where she is now after disappearing from the family holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, where she stayed in Portugal with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann along with her siblings.

Prior to her disappearance, her parents and their friends were dining at a nearby restaurant and they checked on the children periodically throughout the night, however she disappeared without a trace at around 10pm.

Recent news points to a German prisoner who was previously convicted of sexual offences against children, as being at the centre stage of the case and is now being investigated on suspicion of murder, which is the latest turn in the tragedy which has turned the McCann's lives upside down for years.

The prisoner, "Christian B" travelled around Portugal in a camper van and he is believed to have been in the vicinity where Madeleine was last seen before going missing.

Madeleine's case has touched hearts across the world and at one point, the truly emotional and harrowing case appeared in newspapers with the little girl's photograph day after day, meaning the utter despair was felt not only by Mrs and Mr McCann, but the world who witnessed their nightmare.

However, it also touched a nerve, with many criticising how the parents left the children at home alone in a foreign country and others finding it unjust that one case had so much more attention and funding over the years than others may have.

But one thing remains true, an innocent child was taken from her parents and the very least she deserves is to have the criminal that did it brought to justice.
