Have you joined any academic competitions at school? How did it help you as a student and a person?
Closed

School competitions can be memorable: both painful and fun but for sure, they bring learning experiences.

I started joining academic competitions in Grade 5. I represented my school in the copy writing for the journalism competition. Then came high school which had more opportunities to compete with. Not to brag but I was always the representative of my year level to represent our school and municipality in Araling Panlipunan or any history/current events quizzes/competitions. I reached until the Division level and got second place for the United Nations Quiz and 3rd place for History Quiz when I was in second high year high school.

Then I focused on journalism when I was in third and fourth year. I represented the school in Filipino Sports Writing and Copy Writing.

I can say all competitions were fun even though I didn't win first place in higher level competitions. These competitions helped me to be more people person and to gain more confidence as I'm a shy type. I can also travel for free and a kind of stress reliever from school stressors.

Overall these competitions helped me to be a better person.

I also joined competitions like that. Though, I'm not really good at writing. I guess I was chosen simply because I was the most capable of writing and speaking English in my class. So it was no surprise that I lost frequently. Not that it was a big deal. After all, there really were better writers than me.

I was once a part of our school's editorial staff and really had helped me a lot in meeting different personalities when we're outside the campus. This molded me into a creative person having a wide imagination in all aspects of writing.

I am happy to be one of the representatives of our school from elementary to high school and it was a lot of fun. It taught me sportmanship and how to socialize and made a lot of friends from different schools. I was the type where I should get the first place always but I realized that in real life you can't get whatever you want. I learned that teamwork also plays a major role and a great strategy is very much needed.
