AN OPEN LETTER TO MCDONALD'S....Why are you falling so far behind your competitors on animal welfare?

~In the last year, nearly 300,000 concerned consumers signed a petition, thousands of people sent you letters and commented on your social media, and hundreds gathered at more than 100 protests at headquarters/restaurants.
~Chickens are intelligent, sensitive animals capable of suffer, yet you allow your suppliers to keep them crammed by thousands inside dark, windowless warehouses.
~Over 2oo food brands--including many of your competitors-have already committed to adopting meaningful animal protections policies for chickens in their meat supply chains.
List...BURGER KING, DUNKIN DONUTS, BENIHANA, RUDY TUESDAY, TGI FRIDAYS, CAMPBELLS, GENERAL MILLS, MOES SOUTHWEST GRILL, UNILIEVER, APPLEGATE, KRAFT HEINZ, BLUE APRON, PITA PIT, STARBUCKS, SONIC DRIVE-IN, DENNYS, PAPA JOHNS PIZZA, PEETS COFFEE/TEA, RED ROBIN, SHAKE SHACK, COMPASS GROUP, NESTLE USA, BOSTON MARKET, JACK IN THE BOX, SWEET GREEN, QUIZNOS, HELLOFRESH, ARAMARK, CARIBOU COFFEE, NOODLES & CO, AU BON PAIN, QDOBA, JAMBA JUICE, SUBWAY, MCALISTERS DELI, PITA PIT, NOODLES & CO, CHIPOTLE.
~Signed...Sharon Nunez, President AnimalEQUALITY

I toured a McDonald's in high school. We were given a behind the scenes tour. I saw a cockroach climb out of the shake machine. I haven't eaten McDonald's since. Anyone who eats at McDonalds knows it's junk food and shouldn't care about where the meat comes from. McDonald's would have to spend more money to treat animals fairly. I don't see that happening any time soon! Reply

Because, it is cheaper to risk our health than to actually help us be healthier. Reply

With all the money McDonald's rakes in they should be ashamed! Thank you for letting us know about this. Reply

I agree that McDonald's is wrong for allowing this to happen. Chickens should not be crammed in a dark warehouse but rather in a large Chicken Coop on a farm with plenty of breathing room. I mean if you're going to breed Chickens for food purposes; keeping them healthy should be a top priority and this can be more effectively achieved on an actual farm and not a windowless warehouse. This has been standard practice for the past several decades and is only now beginning to change. However, we need to remember that prices will increase as businesses change the way they conduct business. I also agree with IAMChele; people have more interest in saving animals (as good as that is) than saving unborn babies. Reply
