As dainty as a southern flower but with the toughness of steel, that describes the ensemble of women in Steel Magnolias. The movie opens on the day of a lavish southern home wedding and ends years later on the day of a birth, completing a cycle of life events that put you through the ringer. You will laugh, mainly at Shirley McLaine's hilarious rough-spirited Ouiser Boudreaux, and you will cry as you watch each woman go through her own trials and tribulations. It is especially emotional as you watch Julia Roberts' character fight through her health issues, and even more so after finding out the writer based the film on his sister's real battle with diabetes. Sally Fields is the matriarch of the film. Really she is Julia Roberts' mother in the film, but as the film progresses you get the sense that she is everyone's mother. She doles out advice, sometimes unrequested, and helps everyone through many tough decisions and life struggles, while going through her own internal struggle. You see so much of a mother's love in this film and a mother's pain, how much a mother is willing to sacrifice for her child. It's a beautiful thing, one we can oftentimes take for granted.

Steel Magnolias is a wonderful movie about several women (Sally Fields, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLlaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts), it is set in Louisiana around the 1980s which involves a tightly knit group of women friends whose husbands (being absent, depressed or dead) leave them lots of time to gossip at the beauty parlor. For these women gossiping is what they do best among themselves. Dolly Pardon one of my favorite actress plays the part as the Beauty Shop owner. These six women are the steel magnolias of the title, Southern belles who are dippy on the outside but strong enough inside to survive any challenge, of which in this film there are many. At first we are not aware of impending tragedy, however, because the movie sticks so successfully to its comic dialogue. The principal pleasure of the movie is in the ensemble work of the actresses, as they trade one-liners and zingers and stick together and dish the dirt. "Steel Magnolias" is willing to sacrifice its over-all impact for individual moments of humor, and while that leaves us without much to take home, you've got to hand it to them: The moments work. This movie is also very heartwarming so it makes me want to see it a few times as it is one of the best movies there is out there today.

This dramatic movie is an ordinary well set comedy movie. It's producer must have been known for real live acting. this story about three women who first met this shy lady carring easter eggs when stopped by three women whom treated her tough, then went to the party well music played and great musical scenes throughout the movie scene. these well dress women dress in stylish and tough looking old timers clothes were great at the part. When at the salon takingl and chatting with each other their theatrical challenge and argumental was there mistake on going too New York to the theatre.

Steel Magnolias is a classic! I personally don’t watch a lot of older movies, especially if they are from the 80’s, but this one is hard not to miss. Steel Magnolias centers around 6 women all of different ages and lifestyles. They all gather at a hair salon owned by Truvy Jones played by Dolly Parton. They eventually become very close to one other throughout the ups and downs of each of their lives. What really makes this movie so great is the cast and how well they portrayed their characters. The cast makes this movie worth watching for the drama, the laughs, the sadness, the headaches of dealing with friends and family drama, especially mothers and daughters, as well as mourning death. Sorry don’t want to give any spoilers away, but I’m sure everyone knows by now lol. Steel Magnolias was very well writing and the actors are great at expressing their emotions in the film. I would definitely recommend watching it if you still haven’t or won’t even born when it was out. It is one of those movies that lives on no matter how old it is. It is still relevant and a great movie to watch with your girlfriends, mom, boyfriend, hubby, partner, cat, pup etc. (Oh and by the way Dolly Parton I believe is a very smart women and she can do it all! Wish she would have acted a little bit more though. Sally Fields is by far one of the best actresses out there and of course my favorite actress. I have watched most of her movies. One of them being Sybil, which was made back in the 70’s. It was a great portrayal of mental health issues and child abuse that in those times no one was talking about in a public forum like a movie. She deserves more Oscars!)

his movie has an excellent cast of stars including Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLain, Dylan McDermott, Tom Skerritt, Darryl Hannah and more.
Shelby is a bride to be and her mother M'Lynn spend time at their friend Truvy's hair salon. That's the place the women gossip, laugh, cry and grow together.
Shelby is diabetic and has several episodes which dull her hopes for children, as it basic sadly a death sentence, once her and Jackson marry. Eventually, she becomes pregnant and delivers a healthy baby boy. Months after Shelby dies leaving her son, husband, mother and friends behind.
It's an amazing movie, well written, acted and portrayed via film
