Role Models W.O.C.

Martin Luther King's day is approaching and we are getting ready to celebrate change, acceptance, and building bridges to connect communities.

As such, we are launching this Weekend Opinions Contest and we are asking you to share with us who is a role model for you and give two reasons why that person has influenced your life and way of thinking.

Participating is super easy- simply give your answer in the comment section of this post and you will get a guaranteed 500 points, plus, the top 3 comments, in our Moderators' view, will get an extra 5000 points each.

My role model was my Aunt who is sadly no longer with us. She taught us to always look on the bright side, that no matter what things would work out in some way some how. Oh I miss her dearly. Reply

My Aunt Candy is mine. She is loving and accepting, of whatever me our way. And she also finds a way, eventually, to make us all laugh about it! Reply

My role model would be my mom. She was hard working and she didn't like to complain. Even going through cancer she never complained until at the end when she was tired spiritually. Coming from an era when there were so many standards and a particular way to do and act, we have so many more opportunities, she did not let it take her dignity, her self worth or voice. When she fed up she did what need to be done. Reply

My role model is my wonderful grandmother. She helped to raise me during my early years and taught me the values of hard work. I can remember doing dishes, standing on a stool at grandmomma's sink right next to her, after a home cooked meal she had prepared for the family. She was patient with me and explained how to wash the different kinds of items we had used by hand and what order to wash and rinse them in. (Yes, there is an order to conserve water usage.) She has always had the best advice to give on many subjects throughout the years as well. Like when my infant son was starving and I couldn't produce enough milk to provide for him, I mentioned putting cereal in a bottle. Grandmomma's advice was, "Don't you dare feed him cereal from a bottle. Strap him to a chair and spoon feed him. He'll catch on." Sure enough, my 3 month old son was being fed properly and he started putting on weight. She has been like a second mother to me in many ways. Reply

My Daddy is my role model because he worked hard, and built everything he has with own, work, sweat, and time. He built houses, and raised family's, while working over 40 hours a week at the same time. He is the reason I'm a free man with running water, shelter, and heat. His love is irrreplacable and I love him. We seldom dissagree, but when we do he is right in his own way. Hes a God trusting man of good morals, and has led, and trained many men. My Daddy will allways be my greatest human role model. Reply
