I believe school supplies give a chance for the student to show their personality while using something that will help them with learning and studying. Examples: Bedazzled binders, a purple pencil sharpener, cool book covers etc.

I fell that the Scholl supply list is made up of things they will all need I do not remember having to purchase anything for kids to sleep on when I was in school so that is new ...also I understand that purchasing extra then what is required for one kid goes towards helping kids who may not be able to afford them ...and if you are not able to afford them u believe that the school should have a program for help with school supplys, at least So many packets all ready put together to help those who can not afford it per grade...as to supply being unnecessary o have not seen on the grade school level supply list anything that would be a problem....I'm sure as they get older the supply will consist of things they may never use them selves...thanks

My memory of school supplies as a kid is that they were a joy to get. My memory as a mom is that they were expensive and required going to 3 or 4 different stores to find everything on the list. I looked at one of the lists recently & was astonished. Since when did the kids have to supply themselves with hand sanitizer and a dozen different kinds of paper goods for crafts? Things have certainly changed over the past few decades.

I feel that everything they tell kids to bring to school is necessary. I understand and agree with even the paper towels and supplies for the class to use, however I don't feel that those items should be REQUIRED as there are people who may not be able to afford those extra things. I do however think that maybe they should not be allowed to have all the cool designs and things on the school supplies they bring, as It might make kids that can't afford the cool stuff upset. I think it starts social class at an early age.

I remember this time of year used to always be my favorite time of year when I was in school; I loved shopping for school supplies. However, especially for little kids, school supplies are not something that has to be extremely unique or personalized. A crayons marker is a crayola marker and almost every pencil is like every other pencil. As kids get older they will likely develop preferences and then can go out and purchase supplies that are more suited to those preferences, but until then schools should supply those basic things that are required for class.

I understand the need for the school supplies but as a single mom of four, it's a little hard to get all the supplies without not paying a bill due. I also find it to be a little much for them to have to carry all their supplies. I find it quite sad that the schools do not provide everything that is needed for each classroom, I don't blame the teachers because it isn't fair to the teacher's either that the school does not provide what is needed. While it does break the bank having to get all the supplies, I do understand, and in my opinion it's one to two times a year these items need to be purchased, so really the list should stay the way it is. My children use each and every supply that is requested. Just try to get them throughout the year.

I think that schools should supply essential school supplies for the kids. I also think that if children want a variety of school supplies they should be allowed to purchase them with their families. Schools should supply essentials such as paper, pencils, and other things that are used daily. If children want to personalize their items and get unique supplies they should be allowed to buy them themselves.

I don't mind providing the school supplies that my child needs to learn. It's an investment in their future. I always buy everything on the classroom list and try to contribute extra if I can for any child in need for the teacher to give out as needed.
