What are your views on the government checking lunches brought from home for nutritious value. Then they supplement it and charge you for it. Or they may take what you sent and supply them with a school lunch and bill you.

I believe the government has no business telling you what to feed your child for lunch as long as the child has a lunch to eat and isn't going without.

I do not know of any school district that has actually tried to claim that authority. There was a case recently where a teacher did this on her own. The school district stepped in and told her she did not have the authority to do it.

I think there may be some cases where a school might perhaps check to see what the kids are bringing to school to eat because in some school districts that may be the only nutritional meal they eat all day. In some cases and some areas, it may be better to have a school lunch program where all kids get the same lunch or lunch choices and if set up correctly it may even save parent money since a school can buy in greater volume than each parent alone can. The only real problem with that is that the lunch program has to be monitored because I heard of one case where the lunch monitor was making money from those lunches rather than providing a good meal. To check individual lunches though and make a decision as to how healthy they might be is to infringe on the rights of parents and may even give the wrong impression of how healthy the daily food intake is of a given student if that student eats unhealthy snacks for lunch but a nutritious breakfast and dinner to make up for that.

At what point do we stand up and let the politicians know that we do not live in a dictatorship? They should have no authority in what we pack for our children's lunches. That is going too far and it is way out of control. Next thing you know, they will be limiting sex in marriages and how many children we can have like China.

I think that the government should be more concerned with what the schools are doing when kids don't have enough money in their lunch accounts. my kids school will give them a peanut butter sandwich and a milk thats it

I have not heard of this. What country are you in where such things take place? It does NOT sound like the USA! If it is happening here, people MUST protest. It sounds more like a dictatorship than the democracy we are supposed to have.

I think it's insane! Why is my tax dollar being spent on such nonsense? If the government is so concerned with what a parent packs in a lunch, then the government should provide all students regardless of income level with what the government considers to be a nutritional lunch at no additional cost to the family. That way the kids can throw out the majority of the provided lunch. While the government is at it, why not make all students arrive an hour before school begins and have a mandatory breakfast? The government can also provide dinner to the kids, which will also be thrown out. At the rate we are going, all schools will be boarding schools and the children will be provided with 3 square meals a day, which will end up in the trash cans.

Which government, it is not the federal governments business, I don't believe it is the state government business, I don't think local government should check lunches, I do believe that parental government should be responsible for children's lunches at school, as much as they should be responsible for their own lunches at work.

I agree, the government has no right and it as absurd. I understand where they are coming from but this exceeds the role of government is too intrusive.
