Do you like Chex Party Mix? Do you make your own or buy it pre-made?

Chex Party Mix was something that my mom loved and she made it all year round. I tend to make it more in the cooler months, and especially around the holidays - I love the way that it makes the house smell! My mom was sensitive to MSG, which most seasoned salts contain, so we made our own seasoned salt to use in the recipe. Besides the seasoned salt, butter and worcestershire sauce, we used Rice Chex, Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, Cheerios, Crispix, small pretzels (such as pretzel sticks or mini pretzels), unsalted dry roasted peanuts, and Cheese Nips (or Cheese Tidbits or Goldfish). I still use those ingredients when I make the mix today. I actually have the recipe cut from a box of Chex from many, many years ago when mom and I made it (with all of her scribblings about the doubled amounts) - back before they changed the recipe to include bagel chips. And I always make a double batch so that I can take some into work. Do you like Chex Party Mix? If so, do you make it or buy it pre-packaged?

Zubereitung:
Zwiebel und Knoblauch schälen. Kartoffeln schälen, waschen und mit der Zwiebel in kleine Würfel schneiden, Knoblauch zerdrücken. Hähnchenbrust waschen, trocken tupfen und in mundgerechte Stücke schneiden. Weißkohl putzen, vierteln, Strunk entfernen und den Weißkohl in feine Streifen schneiden, Tomaten würfeln.
Chicorèe putzen, halbieren, Strunk entfernen und den Chicorée in breite Streifen schneiden. Walnüsse grob hacken. Zucker in einer Pfanne schmelzen, Walnüsse dazu geben, karamellisieren und abkühlen lassen.
Hähnchenbrust in erhitztem Öl anbraten. Zwiebel, Knoblauch, Kartoffeln und Weißkohl dazugeben und andünsten. Weißwein und Brühe angießen, aufkochen und abgedeckt 30 Minuten garen. Nach 20 Minuten Chicorée hinzugeben.
Schmorpfanne mit Salz, Pfeffer, Paprikapulver und Kümmel abschmecken und mit den Walnüssen bestreut servieren.
Zutaten (4 Portionen):
je 1 Zwiebel und Knoblauchzehe
400 g Kartoffeln
350 g Hähnchenbrustfilet
1 kleiner Weißkohlkopf (ca. 1 kg)
10 getrocknete, in Öl eingelegte Tomaten
2 Chicorée
60 g Walnüsse
2 EL brauner Zucker
2 EL Pflanzenöl
300 ml trockener Weißwein
400 ml Brühe
Salz, frisch gemahlener Pfeffer
Paprikapulver, Kümmel

I love Chex Party mix. I have made it but also bought it. Reading your topic now makes me want to make it as it is so much healthier and cheaper to do it yourself.

We have a chain of stores here called Bulk Barn; they sell really good party mix, but it's pretty expensive.

We don't have chex in England, but we have similar mixes we can buy, especially at Christmas. I buy the ones ready made.
