Yes we do have family traditions we are passing down. I feel traditions will soon be a thing of the past if we don't. Our tradition is old fashioned roll out cookies for Christmas and valentines day. I am the fourth generation with this recipe and so we now have three generations in the kitchen making them. us,our daughter, and our two grandkids. While I am not sure who gets more flour on them I don't mind the mess for all the memories we are making. Even the dog gets her nose and coat floured by the time we are done.
when my grandmother was getting married her mom was in Italy she had very little money so she sent my grandmother a five piece plate setting and one more set on my grandmother first anniversity them she passed away. my grandmother didnt put the place settings away but she decided to use them but only on special occassions such as her first anniversity, the birth of each of her children and their birthdays , christens, communions, engagements and marriages and the births of her grandchildren and her first great grand child . each member of our family will recieve two 5 piece place settings and on our special days in our lives we celebrate by following this tradition and we also use this time of remember our ancestors and tales from the old country, we celebrate the day and have a living history which is alway changing as people die children are born ect.
My 5 year old grandaughter attends private school. One of the activities they do several times a year is visit the seniors at the local nursing home. At Easter, the kids take the eggs and they get together with the seniors andd decorate them; on Halloween they go with their costumes and get candies and stuff and then around Christmas they go and sing carols. My grandaughter calls the residents grandpas and grandmas and I get a kick out of watching her interact with the seniors.
I have never been to a live theatre show, but this morning I was watching something on tv about the Mary Poppins live show. I loved that movie as a child and it looked like the live show would be really good too. I'm thinking maybe it is time I try going to a couple live shows. Do you have any suggestions for good shows to see live?
I received a gift certificate to a store that I like. The best thing was that my husband didn't have to work today! He always works the holidays but not this time! It will be nice not to be alone on Christmas. The snow was nice too. :)
With Christmas coming up, I've really been in the mood to watch some Christmas themed movies. So far I've seen A Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life, and Last Holiday. I've got to say that It's a Wonderful Life is my all time favorite Christmas movie, though. I've been watching it ever since I was a little girl and I absolutely LOVE it!
I love to watch the grinch that stole christmas and i dont care if it is the cartoon one or the one with Jim Carey but i just really enjoy that movie during the holiday season!!
Did you like this movie or not? We watched it in 3D movie version a month ago for my daughter’s birthday party, she is 9 years old. I was shocked how they can advertise it for such a small kids. As for me, it was really scary movie.
My family and I watch two movies every Christmas. One is Christmas Vacation starring Chevy Chase, and the other (we watch every Christmas Eve) is A Christmas Carol the 1951 version starring Alastair Sim. That's the best version. I think Sim was genius at the part. A few others are: we always open one gift on Christmas Eve and the rest in the morning, my grandmother sends a box through the mail full of goodies she makes, and my mom and I make things like wassail, toffee, gingerbread cookies and other treats. Also, it's kind of a tradition for us not to have turkey on Thanksgiving. We usually have either meat pies (one of my favorites), stuffed pumpkin, or beef and beer.
