Many states do offer compensation for those who are prevented from working due to caring for a sick or elderly family member. It would be the equivalent of being paid as a caregiver to your aunt. I was constantly worried about them. Have you spoken to your husband about your concerns? Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not here to offend you. But my advice is to maybe speak to your doctor about your concerns and worries. The stress must be difficult to deal with. Perhaps they could come up with suggestions to maybe help ease your worries somehow if that's something you are open to? You shouldn't have to go through this.

As my husband and I get older, I am starting to have this anxiety that I might wake up one night, or morning, to find my husband has died in bed next to me. When I wake up in the night, I have to listen, or feel him, to make sure he is still breathing. Am I the ONLY person who ever feels this way? I guess it is because my husband has turned 52, and that is the age at which my father died from heart trouble. Please take a moment to give me your heartfelt answer, and also, if you have an extra moment, please rate me by clicking on the stars next to my profile picture. Thank you. I can't wait to see your responses. I shall rate you also, because I read, and rate, each person who takes the time to answer my questions. If you are younger than that then there is still so much in life that you have to learn. If your older you feel like your life is about over. In the mid age then you know enough to suit you but you are still young enough to enjoy everything ablout life. Know there is that select few that are older and still in shape to enjoy life to its fullest plus they are much wiser.

OMG - I can't believe the responses! : ) Maybe its only me in - OMG - I can't believe the responses! : ) Maybe its only me in life?? On 03/17 - I will be 52 and never, ever in my life felt as good as I do today!! When I hit 50 - I was like whoo whoo. . . I made it! I let everybody know my age and most people guess me for at least 5 years younger! I work at it both physically and mentally. Keep moving, moving, moving!
My late teens - mid twenties was a disaster and I'm lucky to be alive . . . starving myself (except for vitamins) to stay 118 pounds at 6'1" for modeling. My thirties - early forties was one abdominal surgery after another from one medical procedure that totally went wrong. And at 48 is when I turned things around. People may say I'm "lucky" and it must be inherited, but not with the "track record" of my family. Where I'm at today - I did myself. Walk 2 miles almost daily (all weather), drink at least 8 glasses/bottled water daily, vitamins daily, more fiber-less sugar, built muscle and a far, far cry from thinking my life is downhill. Its attitude, physical movement, and I have never been in the shape on in now!! : )

Post your opinion!

(lillyflower4u)

Health

Aging

http://us.toluna.com//people/lillyflower4u

Do you care for an elderly family member...care to talk about it?

http://us.toluna.com/opinions/18461/Do-care-elderly-family-member-care-talk-about.htm

http://us.toluna.com/opinions/18461/Do-care-elderly-family-member-care-talk-about.htm

My 92 year old aunt with alzheimers came to live with me about five months ago when it became apparent to me she was not able to care for herself anymore. I'm 52, just lost my job, got divorced after 25 years and both of my parent died in the last year. I'm still stunned by all the changes and losses in my life. I thought this would give people like me who are trying to care for their elderly family a chance to share experiences. It's a hard job to take on, especially when they don't recognize you and have no clue what's going on. Last Monday she went to have dinner with my brother and fell and broke her hip so now I'm living in the hospital day and night with her, trying to keep her from pulling out her ivs and not hit anyone. Sometimes she recognizes me and thanks me for helping her and others she thinks she hasn't seen me in years and we're at her house and I've just come by to steal everything she's got before she dies and she hisses how disappointed she is that I turned out the way I did. Although I know it's only because of her disease I hope her last words to me aren't hateful. I've put my life on hold to care for her and make her last years as pleasant as possible and for those who might be thinking it's because she has money, she doesn't even have enough to bury her when she dies. If you're going through something similar I just want you to know my heart goes out to you and if you feel like talking about it I'm here.

God bless you for taking on more. After what you've been through. - God bless you for taking on more. After what you've been through..your one tough cookie. I'm not currently taking care of someone but know it will be my future in the not too far off future. My parents, who function great now, are in their 70's. God willing, they will have another wonderful 20 years. My brother, I know, won't be there to help me but my sons (who are teens now) adore them & will want to help. So, even though I'm a bit terrified of this, I feel comforted to know that many people love them too & will be there in whatever capacity they can. They say when you get real old you become like little kids again.. Well, my parents made sure I was fed, clean & safe. And I feel that is the very least I can do for them. Stay tough, get support & take some time for yourself. You an only be there for this family member if your in good shape yourself. I am an only child, and her husband, my father, has been dead a long time. She lives alone, no boyfriend. But the way she is treating me lately is causing us to have problems. She is disputatious of everything I say, arguing against me on almost every topic. The dr. told me she has beginning stages of alzheimer's and this can make one argumentative, forgetful, and confused, like she is. So how do I tell her to quit treating me like I'm 10 years old?
