I have a timer on my water heater to save electric and money. It turns it's self on one hour before I get up, off when I leave the house in the a.m., turns back on one hour before I get home in the evening and turns off at bed time. It saves me better than $1,000 a year. I am told it also saves on the life span of my water heater. The timer also gives me the option to turn it on manually if needed unexpectedly and will return it's self back to it's programed schedule at the end of the next cycle.

Okay folks, I'm gonna be honest. I can't afford one of those new bright red fancy front loading washing machines by Maytag. Alas, I DO, however, have a one year old top loading washer my mom bought me at Lowe's for a housewarming gift. (Thanks, Mom!) So it works great, cause it's new and all.... but one thing I notice: It sometimes has a smell about it, like when water stands. Like today, for instance, I washed a load of my husbands work shirts and took them out immediately. I use Arm & Hammer liquid detergent with Oxy (that stuff smells GREAT!!) so my clothes are getting clean. But now, a couple hours later, as I go to put in some more jeans and things, when I open the lid, there is this stagnant odor. We have natural well water here, NOT chlorinated city water, which might be a cause..... but what I'm wondering is, inside the machine itself, is there a place inside the barrel where water CAN stand and stagnate? If I fill up the machine with water and add some bleach, let it do it's thing and spin out, would that help? What causes this odor? Thanks, and sorry!!

I currently use a 70 Watt one about 4 feet from my computer and think it is a lot better than a fluorescent bulb. It has a continuous spectrum of light like standard incandescent bulbs rather than just one or several wavelengths like fluorescent, mercury vapor, and sodium vapor lights, and is much less yellow than a standard incandescent bulb. When I first started using it I started feeling very awake and activated and able to make better eye contact with people, and I am thinking of getting more of these lights especially the 5000K (least yellow) ones in order to recapture that stimulation.
