10 months agoThe guys who are decent, but not stellar still have to eat, and even if he comes up with a lame idea for a show, he's learning as he does it and, we would hope, getting better as he learns from his mis-steps. With such a fickle audience as the public, who knows what will be funny one minute or the next? Or across differing age-groups, or cultural-groups, etc. Network television is more likely a huge hindrance to guys like Drew, since the networks demand huge ratings, which means you gotta please damn-near everybody or you fail.
Think about all the times you've started watching a show and thought, "This is a pretty good show" and then have it cancelled by the networks a couple months later. The network rating structure is the issue, not really how funny Drew Carey is or not. To those who like him, he's hilarious, and those who don't just scratch their heads. That's why I like these more specialized networks that are popping up like USA and SyFy and so on. They cater to the niche markets and don't live or die by Nielsen.
