I was reading a yahoo article a while back, and it listed the states where you can buy a home for less than $30,000. I was amazed to see how the prices can vary. Of course, there was a drawback. The availability of jobs were not good, because some had major business closings. For retired people, who do not work, these places could work out great for them, if they would want to relocate away from family. Even though properties were cheaper, I would not move away from family, especially at an elderly age, would you?
We live in Canada, not too far from Detroit Michigian, and I am sure that you could buy a house in that city for that amount. That area is really feeling the pinch of the economy and the downturn of the automotive industry and manufacturing in general.
I would also love to buy my own home outright but it's all the costs accociated with purchasing a home that put's me off like getting a solicitor, surveyer, finding a morgage lender and a deposit etc... it's just impossible to do unless you have a large amount of money to start with.
