I live in what was once a great coal-mining area and know what it used to be like. Most of the mines have now closed.

My friend grew up next to a coal fired power plant not far from here. The power plant paid to have every house in the neighborhood washed every year or two.

I would not like to live next to any type of manufacturing, etc. We live within 50 miles of a nuclear plant (it is down for a while because it has to have some work done on the site) )

Life close to any industrial plant or operation isn't very comfortable. Even living next to a cement plant, rock quarry, sewage treatment plant or waste dump has its unpleasantness. What would you suggest we do? Eliminate all these and other like it? Close down oil refineries? Pig farms? Organic farmers who use cattle manure? See my point?

I'm familiar with the problems. Everyone is touting clean coal burning; but I don't see it. It's still a hazard.

Fortunately, I never had to experience it. I have absolutely no desire. Nobody should have to live there.
