How do you feel about our education system here in the Us?

I feel like we are still behind, but I also feel that with our nobody gets left behind, we set some our students up for failure. I realize there are way to many students per teacher in most schools, but in that case maybe ask the communities to volunteer... I know time is not what alot of people have, but theres also those who could spare some time volunteering. Education is important and some more our tax money should go towards our kids, instead of other places....

The strange scenario of education here, is it continues all the way to the corporate world. Some boss is going to learn a new language for business expansion, or instead apply the norm of hiring a foreigner cause nobody knows another language, never been taught here or simply too lazy to expand their horizons. As others have stated, many people learn 2-4 languages starting as a child because the best time to learn a new language is when the child is very young versus older. Memory retained is night and day compared. We can not only pass judgement upon the school system as many parents still believe the school system are their baby sitters instead of a working commitment. Look at the stats of school students "electing" to take Calculus.Yes, Electing cause only a moronic system lets the students select their path based upon math and science.
Our nation went to the moon, but it truly was not all because of our brains and vast intelligence too. Whom is the father of NASA? German developer of the V rockets during WWII heading to England. The russians were not much brighter, they grabbed some germans from WWII and they started their russian equivalent. Now, you want to send something to outerspace, you best believe alot of foreign visa holders will arrive cause math and science are appreciated here like study hall.

Our children are way behind. When you look at schools in other countries, their kids can speak three languages by the time they are in 5th grade. Their kids know so much more than the kids in the United States. That is why so many of our doctors, engineers, and other jobs are held by someone other than a person born and schooled in the US.

Are education need to be improved alot. Alot of the studies need to be more informed and the teachers should make sure the students understand . If there are book on children to being able to read at the age of TWO and to learn there Numbers why arn't they in all of the school?

WHILE THINGS AREN'T PERFECT, THE US SYSTEM OF EDUCATION IS STILL FAR ABOVE THE REST OF THE WORLD. WENEED TO MAKE TEACHERS AND THEIR UNIONS RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPROVING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF OUR CHILDREN.

As a public school teacher, I can clearly say that we are in trouble. Too many kids, not enough books, difficult behavior, administration that feels their hands are tied to discipline for fear of law suits. Kids that want to learn can't, kids that don't want to learn cause disruption for the rest. We need to reform the entire system!

If we do not do something about the lack of educational services than we will continue to go down hill. The teachers are not paid nearly enough, and the students "get what is paid for!" we need more educated leaders, voters, just people in general!

I have a major issue with the cuts that our schools have been doing. Particularly in the area of Social Studies....... History in particular (US, World etc). Going back when I was in HS, 12+ years now, they actually joined English and History together as "Humanities", which while a good idea, is wrong. History is SO important to our children. If they don't know whats come before, they will be doomed to repeat. Also, there needs to be more openness to what is taught, not such strict regulations on teachers so that the "Arena of Ideas" can be just that and not just what is "gonna do well on the test". Even more, on that point, the whole "teaching to the test" thats going on cross-country needs to stop, it's severely limiting our children's imaginations and base knowledge.
