What do you think about teachers having to spend some of their own money for supplies for the classroom?

I think that it is terrible that teachers have to use their own money for supplies. As we all know, teachers are underpaid for all the hard work that they do.I know that many schools don't have a lot of money, but maybe they need to do more fundraisers for school supplies.I think that everyone should appreciate teachers.

I don't think that is fair to use their own money. They are already underpaid and with all the hard work they do I don't think they should pay anything extra for things which the school should be providing.

This is the way it has always been, but I don't like it and have never liked it. I don't think school administrators should be taking most of the money, but the teachers have a strong union so why doesn't their union fight for these things for them?

I think it is a disgrace. They do not get paid enough to begin with. At my son's school, the school association has each parent pay for the supplies their kids will use then entire year in the classroom. The teacher makes the list and staples fills it once the parent pays the 50.00. I know that still the teachers at my son's school, purchase learning tools with their own money. It is a shame that there is not enough money in the school system. Teachers are just one of the few professions that do not pay enough IMO. Nurses also need to be paid more as do firemen and police officers. Heck, I am sure most working people feel that they do not get paid enough.

I actually donate supplies to our next door neighbor...who is a teacher. Personally, I believe she makes decent money for someone who has about 4 months off in a year.

Too bad the money allociated by Congress in 2009 did not go for classrooms
or schools. It ended up in the Teacher's Union retirement fund.

I don't know why teachers have to spend their own money for supplies for the classroom, do you? That would be my primary question if I heard someone claim they needed to pay for supplies in order to teach. What kind of supplies?
I appreciate teachers, most who aren't burned out and just keeping their job because the union won't allow them to be replaced by someone who is more competent or not burned out.
I am underpaid also for the hard work I do, as are most typical Americans. The difference between me and other working class people and a teacher is we don't get all the time off, working 9 months out of 12, and nice holidays in between, such as Christmas and spring/Easter break.
I also understand the benefit package (which must be considered ass part of one's pay) is very good for teachers. The reason I know this is because people aren't voting for increase in taxes to fund the schools/teachers/admininstrators because they can't afford it and someone who was against voting for increases listed the "perks" that come with being a teacher.
I still would like to know what taxpayer funded school forces teachers to buy their own supplies. If that is indeed the case, maybe someone should look at who is in charge of the budget or the administrators who are mismanaging funds for schools.
