These poor German Shepherds in my neighborhood are ALWAYS outside without a cover from the wicked hot sun and the extremely hard downpours and everything inbetween. I never understood why people have pets if they do not provide for the adequately. At least the German Shepherds have each other and the insane horse that roams the property to keep each themselves occupied but some people leave their pets indoors in a cage all day only to let them out briefly for a hurried wee. Of course there are worse atrocities on Earth but I need help in understanding how people can treat their pets this way and worse.
I don't have a decent answer for you. I suppose they do this for the same reasons that some people have kids that they can't take care of properly either.
I can't stand to see that. I reported our neighbor anonymously; and within 2 weeks the dog had a dog house. He was out in the sun and the snow with no protection. I was sooo upset!
This is a good topic and I too would like to know as most people with pets do this and my mom is one of them. She and my little sister often forget to give them food and clean water. Everytime I visit, there is hardly any food left or none at all and even though they have water in their bowl, its dirty. I get on their case and lecture them everytime I visit but they don't learn. Other than the food issue they don't have it that bad, they have a backyard all to themselves and are taken indoors at night when its cold. But I doubt the people that this question is intended to will ever give a truthful answer or any at all. I know many people get their pets irresponsibly and then get bored or tired of them and eventually become personal property to them instead of being part of the family.
I was just thinking about this today! It really makes me mad when I see the homeless people asking for spare change, they get welfare as it is, which isn't very much, but it makes me mad when they have new puppies. Yes the puppies are cute, but if you can't provide a warm home and shelter for your brand new puppy, which is on the longest walk of it's life, considering he doesn't have a home, I feel sorry for the for the really cute puppy! That's not fair to the dog!
