What is the most awesome or interesting animal you have seen in the wild?

Yesterday, I saw an American Bald Eagle swooping down to catch something, then spread its wings and soar away. It was an awesome sight. Two years ago the beautiful and majestic bird was removed from my home state of Maryland's list of endangered and threatened animals. In 1977, only 44 pairs of nesting bald eagles occurred in Maryland. By 2004, there were 390 documented breeding pairs. It is now estimated that over 500 nesting pairs of bald eagles occur in Maryland annually. However, even with their great comeback, it is not a sight frequently seen by many. Tell me about what animal you have seen that struck you as awesome, odd, terrifying, or even down right funny...

Wow, it would be cool to see an eagle up close. I guess in my neighborhood for me, it was exciting to see a hummingbird. I was watering my hanging strawberry plant and scared a hummingbird out from behind the plant. It flew out from the back and flew within inches of my face, just hovering til it saw me and I saw it. Then we both jumped, literally, then while I stared in awe (after realizing what this beautiful creature was), it flew off in another direction. But it was very cool to me!

Oh that is beautiful. You are quite lucky! I think owls can be quite interesting animals. Bats are a bit scary. I have seen deer, moose (elk), fox, porcupines and coyotes. We see a lot of strange fish in the sea, but I have no idea what they're called!

In an intimate moment with my husband while outside somewhere my husband whispered in my ear, don't stop and don't be surprised but there is a skunk watching us on our right side. He said to ignore it. I looked over and yes indeed, there was a skunk about a foot from our faces, looking at us. I decided that ignoring it was a good idea and it must have lost interest because it wandered off. Rather ruined a good time for a while but things worked out just fine eventually. :)
