Yesterday, I saw an American Bald Eagle swooping down to catch something, then spread its wings and soar away. It was an awesome sight. Two years ago the beautiful and majestic bird was removed from my home state of Maryland's list of endangered and threatened animals. In 1977, only 44 pairs of nesting bald eagles occurred in Maryland. By 2004, there were 390 documented breeding pairs. It is now estimated that over 500 nesting pairs of bald eagles occur in Maryland annually. However, even with their great comeback, it is not a sight frequently seen by many.
