Did the Colts do the right thing by letting Peyton Manning go?

Today the Colts held a press conference with the owner & Peyton Manning announcing that Peyton is being released as a free agent. The timing of all this is fairly obvious that it was done just so the Colts didn't have to pay Peyton the 28 million dollar bonus he was due if they kept him. I can see the standpoint of the owner & the rest of the organization not wanting to spend the money since Peyton had to sit out last season due to his neck injury, but on the other hand I think that it is dirty seeing that Peyton led the team for 14 years to excellent things. Do you think that the Colts did the right thing?

I really do not know enough about the circumstances regarding Peyton Manning being released as a free agent, to comment on it.
