Has common sense gone out the window, is it dead and buried ? Read this week about a 71 year old woman, who dropped some cotton threads that fell out of her gloves onto the floor, that she had not noticed. The environmental enforcement officer first stopped her, she had protested her innocence,, but then he took her to the scene of the crime, showing her the curled up strands of cotton, and then a fine was issued. Council officials say that yes she had committed an offence, but said they would no longer be demanding the payment. This is ludicrous, what ever next, is there no common sense left, if this carries on will we all lose our common sense as well - I do hope not. What do you think ?
but what exactly she was accused of? what type of crime she commited? i just cant imagine the environmental enforcement officer was for real, lol i would laugh at him if he stopped me, seriously. Good story, Kitty!
I do not blame the woman for not paying this ludicrous fine, considering people are seen dropping things all the time when out in public places. To officially make it illegal to drop anything at all their would have to be notices around towns stating you would get fined. People drop cigarette butts and that is not finable is it, or maybe it is. I do not think it is fare to fine just one person occasionally.
Absolutely disgusting!! If she had deliberately emptied the contents of her bag and pockets on the floor then fine, she should be reported, but how many times has something fallen out of a pocket unnoticed? Only the other day I had to tell my friend that she had dropped a receipt when she took her tissue from her pocket and I knew that it was important. This kind of thing happens all the time and is surely just normal behaviour. I agree, common sense left some time ago!
It sounds like the environmental officer was a bit of a jobs worth and the council had to be seen as supporting him so agreed and then reduced the fine! But yes i agree the world is going mad!
have you ever been into the carpark of a local council office?? My local office car park is covered in cigarette butts, millions of them especially infront of the fire escape door where they all pop out for a quick cigarette. Butts take 14 years to bio-degrade. A tiny pice of cotton would probably have been picked up by a bird and used in the building of their nest. £75 seems a bit steep aswell. Its just another way for THEM to make money on us already struggling beings!!!
