Had to cancel the milk man...

We've taken the tough deciision to cancel the milk man recently. I feel bad because the man has to make a living but his milk is twice the price of other places which I can get it from & I simply cannot justify it. For two 4pint cartons of milk it was £5.00 almost and I could get the same from a local shop for about half the price. Over a month, based on saving about half the cost, I could be £10 or more better off. Over a year, that's a lot of money!! Still feel bad though!

Do you get your milk delivered? Is there anything you've particularly had to cut of late?

It's a tough call to have to make, weighing up the convenience of having the milk (and whatever other produce the milkman might deliver) right on your doorstep against the cost of fetching it yourself..If you have to drive to the nearest shop,it might be worthwhile to stay with him,but if you can get what you need cheaper without inconveniencing yourself or having to travel,in the long run you made the right call.. Yes I agree with you milk is a lot cheaper in the local shops nowadays the milkman is most definitely too expensive. If the milkman were more competitive with the price of milk I would not worry too much but that is not the case. I used to have milk delivered at my previous address but found it was too expensive too so I cancelled it. I would not feel too guilty because in the current economic climate you have to make all the cutbacks that you can really. Reply

I have not had my milk delivered for years as I thought it was much too expensive. There are only the two of us at home and we do not use much milk I use it in tea and sometimes on cold cereals or to make sauces but that is about it. Hubby uses it to make yoghurt. We normally buy what I call 'white water' - skimmed, long life milk in one litre cartons which costs just 49p a time. It also means that I have normally got a stock of milk. Reply
