Is there a limit to the number of Xrays you can have in a year?

I ask because I seem to have had a great number of them in the last twelve months. Due to my (non-existent, according to Atos) health problems, I have had several bad falls, and have had xrays of my knees, neck, skull, hips, hands, feet and spine - fifteen in all. I have also had five xrays done of my teeth due to having a new dentist.
I think twenty xrays in a year is quite a lot and wonder if it is likely to cause any problems. I can't see that not having them after a bad fall is an option though.

It does seem a lot to me, I will have to ask my daughter the doc and see what she says. I remember years ago and my son had many accidents and operations there was talk of him having too many. If it is safe why do they or did they have to wear those heavy tabards to protect the operators I wonder.

I don't know as I've only been x-rayed a few times in my life,I'm sure they wouldn't keep doing it if it was dangerous.Ask your Doctor to put your mind at rest!

I have just answered you last topic about the baby gate and feel doubly evil for laughing at the story. However as you seem happy to share the stories, do you get to keep a picture like a baby scan?

I don't know much about xrays - I do know they are not good for us why else would the Dentist cover us up with that 60 pound lead blanket before doing xrays. I have been lucky -- no falls or breaks yet.

i think a lot of things are changing with xrays. I remember having xrays when i was younger and they always asked if i was pregnant. however i had an xray when i was pregnant and i warned them i was pregnant and they said that was fine and nothing to worry about.
however i think 20 in a year is a crazy number - have you tried googling it

Judging by the speed that the nurses run out of the room before flicking the x-ray switch, I'd be a bit concerned too !
As for Atos, the whole system is a disgrace.

Many people are concerned about the risks to their health from getting medical and dental x-rays, as well as from working near x-ray machines. Although x-rays have a potential of causing genetic damage and cancer, the chances of being harmed from medical or dental x-rays is extremely small. In fact, natural radiation may pose a greater risk.

Yes. X-rays are hazardous radiation so there is a limit. However I suspect it is complicated to say what that limit is since modern machines can get an image with a much lower dose of radiation and ones that are only targetting a small part of your body need even less. Maybe you should check with your GP.
