Is finding any kind of job more useful than going to University for school leavers in 2012?

The huge rise in University tuition fees and high cost of living away from home for 3+ years with no promise of a career for graduates makes me think school leavers might be better off getting any kind of work they can. What do you think?

I think I can see what you are saying, why start their careers up to their eyes in debt and no job at the end of it. I think I agree to a very big degree.

U nás je velká nezaměstnanost. Najít si místo je čím dále těžší.

I dont think you HAVE to go to university to be successful in life ..... in fact it may in some cases be an unnecessary diversion! I never went and didnt even do that well at school but these days i consider myself very successful with my own property business so it depends. If you are the entrepreneurial type then you will be fine without it as its down to good old common sense - believe me i know!

I would say a couple of years in any job and then go to uni. Simply, it broadens your horizens so much and so many things are possible. I always tell both my daughters it is better to be unemployed with a degree rather than unemployed without

Since there are literally no jobs, I would recommend that continuing with the educational path is well worth both the money and effort as that certificate will pay off some time in the future; just not this year or next.
