Okay, okay. Before you jump down my throat. I realize the down fall about cats mating like rabbits and then getting killed by cars or abandoned and all that. It is just that I have a kitten who will soon be 6 months old. I love his personality. I don't want to change that. I also feel a bit like a traitor to have his balls cut off when he is not expecting it. I have a ten year old female dog who I never "had fixed" and she was never pregnant and still is very active and lovable. If this kitten never left the house...like my dog has, what are the negative and/or positive repercussions?
I think it is almost irresponsible not to get your pet neutered. Here in central Florida we hardly see any birds anymore because of the numbers of free running wild cats.
The downfalls are he will spray (mark his territory) all over your house. Cats have a way of sneaking out and he will do his best to sneak out, when nature calls. All of our cats have been spayed or neutered.
Would you feel worse having to put down 5 really cute kittens? If the kitten goes into heat which will happen eventually, like it or not, the noise that you'll have to put up with is something else! Please, be a responsible pet owner and spay and neuter your pets!
I've never seen a change in the personality of a pet who has been neutered. And I absolutely wouldn't feel bad about doing it - all three of my cats have been spayed or neutered and they're all indoor-only pets. An altered cat is likely to be a calmer, healthier, more content pet. Studies show that spayed and neutered cats have average life expectancies twice as long as those of unspayed and unneutered cats. So you'll have your companion for a longer period of time! Here's a link to some other reasons: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/spayneuter/spay-neuter-top-ten.aspx
