40 Words? 80 Words? What on earth for?

I do try and do a fair number of topics when I can get on here, especially with the newbies as I think they need a boost to get them started. But I'm finding that I'm passing loads of them by these days. Why? Because they want too many words! I often see a topic, read the bit, and then find that the snappy and short little response I had in mind needs to be about sixty-five words longer to fit their inane request. What on earth are they thinking? Did they read that totally pointless bullshit in the FAQs that lies, and tells us we get extra points for posting 80 words? Because THAT ISN'T TRUE!!! I haven't had points for 80 words since the merger of 2010, and I don't care how many of you have been kissed on the nose by Toluna and handed out some points, I sure as hell haven't had any for the past nearly eighteen months. So why ask for so many words? Why not just 10 and let those of us with a few brain cells wax poetic and those of us with only a few brain cells merely reply?

I think for some of the inane topics that are posted don't even justify 10 words.

I only ever ask for 10 and leave it up to the individual to say as much or as little as they like.

Possibly they think they get extra points for receiving postings in excess of 80 words rather then (according to the FAQ) the person doing the posting. Some topics can attract replies of 80+ words and others cans be adequately answered in less than twenty words. When I leave a posting I try to add something to the discussion and so do not worry about how many words I add. If I ever get any points for postings made I will be happy but that is not the purpose of my joining in.

Hi molly i agree ,I think new members just do not read FAQ ,or they just dont know how to change the word count ,I do try to tell newbies this some listen some dont ,i honestly dont know why you dont get points for 80 words ???? I have not been kissed by toluna but i do get points for 80 words ,maybe if toluna made their FAQ a bit easier to understand more newbies would read it

Well you managed well over 80 words of rant there, so hey you can do it if you get worked up! ;-)

Must admit I hadn't noticed this, probably haven't tried to post on enough opinions yet, but I have only just realised that I could drop the number of words for a reply to a topic to ten from the default twenty. Needless to say I will be doing that on any topics in future.

i always put 10 words, and then people can write as much or as little as they want, to be quite honest i think 5 words would do for some topics. i have done a few topics with 80 words but sometimes i`ve struggled and ended up just prattling on.

The shorter the better as far as I am concerned, unless it is a totally amazing topic!
