What do you think of traditional wedding anniversary gifts? Funny or serious?

The tradition of giving a specific gift on specific wedding anniversaries dates back to the Middle Ages. Here are some examples
1st - paper
2nd - cotton
3rd - leather and so...

For my first wedding anniversary I gave my husband a toilet roll (and a book, which I gave him later) and I bought him some cotton wool balls (and a jumper which I gave him later). I am struggling with ideas for year three though - I want to do a real present and a funny one but am struggling with a funny one. Any ideas?
If you are married do you follow these traditions? Or do you find them silly.

I think these traditions are fine, not that I have done any of them. When it is our anniversary my husband just gets me some chocolates. Reply

I dont feel we sould be telling you what to do with a leather anniversary. All I would say is use your imagination. We dont find these traditions silly, we have been together for 23 years and I still buy my wife silly gifts. Let me know what you decide Reply

I think a mixture is okay to do some funny or serious. I would want to give something special and memorable though. Reply
