What are your thoughts about an impending disaster caused by "Solar Flares" in 2012?

Over the past few years there has been much said about the possibility or inevitability of disasters in "2012." Everything from Mayan Predictions to
Nostradamus Predictions to NASA Solar Flare Warnings is being debated.
I have noticed that the DISCOVERY and HISTORY CHANNELS are airing
more shows on these subjects. I don't know what will transpire this year;
but I do think that we will experiences something UNUSUAL that will cause
some permanent changes for ALL HUMANITY. I will continue to TRUST in
GOD to bring us through Whatever!

This is very similiar to a fiction book I read a few years ago. I hope these predictions are wrong. I do not think most people are even capable of farming and surviving in small tribes. Does that mean I won't have pay off my crdit cards?

My 9. Year old daughter came home from school the other day.and said. "Mommy, is the world really gonna end in. February?" I was taken aback by the question. First, because she had heard some of the theories. Second, because she thought it would be in. February. I asked her where she heard this from.. she said a boy in class said the world would end this month... I reminded her that only. God has that answer.. she walked away satisfied.. I don't know how, when, or any of that..I just know I trust in. God ...

The Mayan did not predict a dooms day scenario, but rather a new age. Their long calender last for 26000 years and is more precise than the one we use today. Nostradamus predictions are so vague that at the time of WWI and WWII they thought that is what the predictions were talking about. The earth has been hit with solar flares before and probably will get hit again. We have lost satellites in the past from them. I really don't really think that humanity will suffer that much. If we get hit with a strong solar flare, all electronics could be destroyed but they would just be replaced. Even if we get hit by an asteroid we will loose some people and be thrown into an ice age. But humanity will survive.

all i know is im scared to death to think that the government might know about this disaster and isnt doing anything to help us civilians..i really am praying to god that we will make it through whatever it is that will come of this earth this year and hopefully many years after..i have 4 grown sons, 2 grandsons and i want to live to see them all grow into wonderful people, i do not want to see a devistating disaster happen. i just hope that if something is going to happen that the government will alarm all of us and guide us properly to safety and not hide it from all of us..all i can do now is continue to pray

Solar flares are not something that are at all unusual for the sun. It is not at all unusual for the Earth to receive particles from these flares.
It is true that solar flares can interfere with radio and satellite transmissions. But, I wouldn't call that a disaster.
I do not think that people in this country receive a sufficient education in basic science. It's tragic that people worry about normal, everyday events.

I believe that one day terrible things will happen because of abuse of our planet but i don't see it happening within the next 75 years. I believe there is a God and he knows when it is time for the disasters to hit our planet. One can only hope that before anything happens the future generations will educate themselves on how to protect our planet from these disasters. I pray for my child and her children and their children continually learn from past abuse of our solar atomosphere and make this a all green planet

What I know about solar storm's and their affects would fill a thimble, but if it happens and the sicientist of the world do not take measures to counter act it, then whatever happens will happen. Me being an average person am at the mercy of the scientist so I am pretty sure sure that there is little or nothing I could do in the event of a solar storm and it's affects.I think that it all a bunch of hipe to gain attention t certain programs so they can justify the work they are doing and to get funding, which is a good thing if you can pull it off.
