Are holidays overrated?Am I the only one who finds going on a holiday a chore and an unnecessary drain on household funds?

Perhaps it is because I am a mum of four that when we did go away it was more exhausting than being at home! I am amazed by the number of people who think a holiday is an essential and find even though my children are older now, the thought of paying for a holiday, packing and travelling to get to somewhere that's not home, is not that appealling. Does anyone else agree with me or do you think that holidays really are worth the effort?

I have not been able to afford it for a few years but I prefer to go away for just a few days. Cheaper and less hassle.

i love going on holiday. some of them can be awful though with bad hotels, no where to go and bad food etc.. thats why im always careful when i book a holiday.. and my daughter loves them, its good bonding time:)

I love holidays and travelling. I'm not a 'sitting around the pool or on the beach' type of person, I just love seeing other places and cultures.

I totally see your point, but it is nice to get away...the packing and unpacking do get on my nerves though!

I can imagine it is a lot of work when you have a family a baby must be a nightmare! not really relevant to me as I dont have kids and I am single. I have not had a proper holiday for probably over a decade! whilst I'm very organised at work i'm hopeless when it comes to my non work life and my holidays just creep up on me - I'm off next week and haven't organised anything (again!) still i do live in Edinburgh which I suppose is sort of a holiday destination for some. I'll do what I usually do sleep a lot, read a lot, pop out for lunches with my mum and watch way too much rubbish TV :O) - but that suits me just fine1 and i can imagine it sounds like heaven to some of you who are lucky enough to share your lives with others !

yes, they are but they are worth it!! we have 3 children and we go camping!! we must be mad!! have to get the tent up, beds, do all the cooking, washing, but then you get to sit (for all over 5 minutes!) and watch them happily play. we are going abroad this year, haven't been for four years and i'm really looking forward to it. it will be hard as we are self catering and i'll be doing three meals a day as it's not a beach holiday and we can't stroll to the nearest restaurant but i can't wait as i know their going to love it and to get those special moments with my children and see their happy faces, is worth it.
