Should I stick with this job or go back to what I know and love?

I have taken 2 years out of my job to do a higher degree as it will make advancement much easier in the future. Unfortunately it has meant moving 4 hours away and I have had to try and find a new life in a new place. The degree is not going well and I seem to be getting no where fast and then there is the complete lack of money. I am sure things will improve if I stick with it but should I just go back to what I know and love.

Depends on how far into your degree you are. If you are halfway or more then it would be silly not to stick at it. If not, then it needs a bit more thought if you are getting fed up with it.

I assume you started classes in September so you are starting to near the end of the first year and final exams. It might be good to complete a full year of studies before deciding as the credits will be good if you decide to finish your education upgrade. I went back to university as a mature student to get a degree but after a full year and two summer classes I found I had acquired the skills I was looking for. But those credits are good for at least 5 years if I go back. Good luck.

One should expect that working on an advanced degree will be tough and that being self supporting while in school means money will be tight. Only you can decide if it is worth it.

It depends on how much of a financial strain you are in if you can continue your education. Hopefully you can manage.

Go back and do what you like best, life isn't just about advancement and I suppose you also mean money, its about quality of life in terms of happiness.

I suppose only you can decide this, as I'm not sure how far you are into the degree already, how much of a difference it will make to future career advancement and how easy it will be at this point to go back to what you know and love. However, if you're struggling to make a new life in a new place, and this is the only real obstacle, I would be tempted to stick with it, as 2 years isn't that long in the grand scheme of things, especially with breaks for Christmas, Easter and over the summer etc... and the odd weekend making the 4 hour trip to where you lived before. However, I appreciate that making a new life is difficult, and can be darn depressing if you feel that things aren't going well. But I wish you all the best and don't forget to come on here to cheer yourself up a bit with us lot when you feel like it, if that helps..?!!

I believe in working at what we love but I know that isn't always as easy as it sounds. For you, only you can say and decide what you want to do. I think after taking so much time, money, new life, etc. it mght behoove you to stick with it but only you know how much you can take, if you want to continue to take it and what the ultimate benefits are to the question of "Should I stay or should I go now".
