I would develop a flying saucer which could be used for transportation instead of planes. If you think about a frizbee, I would think it might be possible to make a center portion which would not turn and be stable and an outer "frizbee" which could turn and provide thrust and direction. It might even be possible to provide a floatation device which would inflate in the event of a forced water landing to keep that on the surface until help could arrive. Perhaps it might be possible as well to power it at least some of the time with sunlight and solar cells mounted along the spinning section.
