Should I run away as fast as I can?

I will be moving next month and there is an apartment complex that I'm interested in but they are unwilling to show the apartments until after you fill out the rental application. The online pictures look nice but I wonder why they don't allow you to physically see the apartment first. Does this seem bizarre to you too and should I continue looking for a different place?

I went thru this a couple year's ago and also became very frustrated with this rule. A lot of the folks said "an apartment's not available to see". Yeah right, out of a 1000-apt. complex! So I believe you're going to encounter this over and over. I asked some of the reps to call me within a specific time frame if they do have the model I want available to show. Of course not all of them.

Keep looking. After all, you will be paying the rent for some time to come and you have to know what you are buying.

That is interesting. I can't see why they want you to fill out the application unless they just don't want to waste their time with people who aren't a fit for the apartment (can't pay or just aren't serious about it). That is the only thing I can think of. Don't know if it is something to run away from, but I would definitely be wary if you do go check it out. What ever you do, don't give them any money first! I'm sure you know that though :)

I have never heard of that but I don't think it is that strange unless they are charging a huge application fee. I'd search apartment reviews online.

It sounds like they don't want to show it to anyone who has bad credit and are probobly doing a check on your credit first. They don't want to waste their time showing the apartments to someone who does not qualify. Thats what it sounds like anyways, because they have to pay someone to show the apartments. You don't have to take the apartment after you fill out the forms and look at other places to see what they do.

Seems a little strange to me - I wouldn't sign on something I hadn't seen

Right after my Son's Divorce, he was looking for a place of his own and was interested in several different Apartment Complex Units in the next town over.
I remember him telling us that the Apt. Managers were driving him crazy - always calling him to come over for a Tour and offering Free lst Month's Rent, etc.
These places must not be hurting for Renters if they aren't a bit more helpful to you in your Apt. search.
Good Luck.

I am not so sure I think they should show it first.
