Hi, I mean an actual item, not family members or memories we hold dear. An actual item. It can be anything from a paper clipping, a school badge, a special card, an item from a loved one alive or passed, your kindergarten swimming certificate, tattered & old, anything at all that you hold too dear that nothing would make you part with it. I wish I had smaller house as I have everything from my first boyfriend's Birthday card to me, old newspaper clippings about me from when I was a child and fundraising for this or that, my old school badge engraved in Latin, heaps of photographs dating back to the 1860's, little trinkets that while not at all valuable in price, they are very treasured by me. I need a smaller house to make myself have to downsize all my trinkets. I have two things I would never, ever in a million years part with. ONE: A gold cross pendant with a centre ruby from my grandmother given to me when I was 14 y o & never been off my neck except to lose it -it always comes back. From long grass to pillowslips in friends houses where I have slept. Every time I lose it I look to Heavens & ask my nana to please find it. TWO: The other is a ring. A family tradition is to cut or shave some of our wedding ring off for our oldest daughter when she marries. My mum & dad divorced and I found mum's wedding band in the garbage I was told to put out. I kept it, cotton thin as it was, for 30 years without telling her. When my Nana died, I inherited her rose gold thin band. It already had SEVEN generations in it. I took it all to the jeweller who layered all the different golds. White, rose, yellow & all different carats are of course a different colour. With some shavings off my ex wedding ring, my ring now has 9 generations in it. Mum's pretend diamonds in her old eternity ring, thrown out with her wedding ring, turned out to be antique cut so I had the three of them set flush with the band. The oldest girl of the oldest girl and so on. How COULD I ever part with it? What means so much to you that you wouldn't part with for any amount of money and WHY. What is the background to your most precious & treasured item? I would love to hear from you. Thank you. Myo :)))
I have a silver cross which means so much to me because my mum gave it to me and a little clay model my sister made of a unicorn when she was at school i still have that.
A Blessed Mother necklace, I gave it as a Christmas gift for my Mom. When she was dying, she gave it to me and said to wear it, and hold on to it for her. It keeps her close to me each day.
Recently I mm…mm…..mmm…..… Yes, YOU, because I can always trust on YOU to do a poll or opinion for me, and also sometimes a joke and even serious as well. Thank you.
Up until recently there were two things I thought I’d never be parted from. The first of which was a book on the uniforms worn by the armies at the battle of Waterloo. I’d been for an outpatient’s appointment at a hospital about a week or two before my birthday so after being poked and prodded and jabbed with needles etc. my Mum took me into the city centre (she was hoping to do some Christmas shopping) I made a beeline for the book department and my Mum went to buy some Christmas presents without me spoiling anyone’s surprise. I spotted the book and when my Mum returned she asked if I’d like it for my birthday and bought it for me. Sadly the book was stolen from me on 27th December 2011 yes, STOLEN and by one of my own brothers and he keeps lying about not having taken it!!!! It really is heartbreaking to think I’ve had that book for nearly 40 years and treasured it and never lost it despite various house moves etc only for it to be stolen whilst I out of the room for a matter of minutes! My other treasured item, and this will probably sound incredibly soppy, is probably my first teddy bear. It was bought for me by my grandfather a day or two after I was born and was more of a ‘polar bear’ than a teddy in that he has (or rather had) white fur and blue eyes. He’s looking somewhat threadbare now after all these years but I’d never part with him even if he does live on one of the shelves in my wardrobe nowadays.
This one is hard, but without thinking too much I would have to say my special grey/blue fur teddy bear "Brambles. He is a Russ teddy and cost me 60 dollars which was all the money I had at the time I bought him when I was about 12 years old. He's so soft, cuddly and floppy. I wanted to keep his tags on him but my puppy chewed it off about 3 years ago. If he could talk he could tell you a million stories as he has sat in all 3 of my bedrooms which I have lived in for the past 20 years.
I would love a bigger house to keep my collection of memorabelia my darling.........there is so much and i hoard it all......from Jaime's heart shape cushion when she was in the cancer ward to rings after my Mm to tea sets after my grandmother......philbys and my attic are crammed with like.....they are all special darling.....just like you....xxxxx
