What do parents think of the latest toys on offer these days, my daughter likes all the Hannah Montanna and High Schoool musical stuff, but are they worth it or just another rip off, the prices of these items are very costly so i only got one or two of the things last xmas, she now wants a Hanna scooter for xmas which flashes and it costs 30 quid, i do think these themed toys are overpriced.

This has happened to me 3 times this week. After coming out of the supermarket with my loaded trolly and waiting for cars to stop while I cross on the pedestrian crossing, I seem to be invisible. Once the car is loaded, trying to get out of the car park is a nightmare! People just cross the road, either talking on their mobile, whilst pushing a trolly filled to the brim and totally ignoring the cars who are trying to exit the car park. I know we all want to get the shopping over and done with quickly, but surely people should still make sure that there are no cars approaching. I'm getting a little fed up of having to do emergency stops, just because people don't look where they are going and think that they have the right to step out in front of cars. Anyone else had this problem?

I know I will go out to places especially in the evening where I would never have dreamt of going before I had a mobile. I suppose having your mobile phone safely tucked away means security for me and probably for many others, also when my husband and I go to new places we always wander off on our own now because we know we can arrange to meet anywhere at any time we want to do, when once over we were too bothered about becoming separated.

Sorry I had to giggle to myself yesterday when I literally got to help a little old lady across the road. I know that its the whole boy scout thing about helping the elderly cross the street but its the first time in my life when I have literally done it as never had the opportunity before.

Have you actually had this opportunity or are you still waiting for your little old lady to turn up?

And yes she was polite and did thank me.

I was in a toy shop the other day and a little boy aged about five was trying to pull the arm off a doll that was in a pram on show in the store both parents were smiling at him and ignoring what he was doing. I went over and told him to stop trying to pull the arms off the doll. His parents both looked at me with daggers in their eyes and said it was nothing to do with me. An assistant came over and said that he should not have been doing it anyhow and I had every right to correct him. Would you have put the child right, or just ignored him?

Thinking about cynthias clangers brought back some old memories of toys ,can any one remember having a Hula Hoop, Diabalo, Spinning plate, and the fancy whip and tops we chalked patterns on? The Hula Hoop is back in with the children of today and I wish I could still spend ages doing it like we used to! Ah this getting older is no picnic!

I was looking through some of my collectables books and I started to think of the toys I had as a child. My most favorite toy was a post office set I got one christmas and the hours of fun my sister and I had making up letters and posting them. My sister's favourite was her nurses uniform and bag. We had so much fun with toys like that and I find it sad that the kids today don't seem to know to play like that any more. It all seems to be about electronic toys or asking for the latest fad that the TV companies are advertising that week. Do you think children today really know how to play any more?

There were several genres and each in their own way were individual!

The 'Greaser' look, this was for the biker boys and girls, black leather, smelling of oil, 'heavy metal' music and the 'gigs' i did for them usually featured 'born to be wild' by Steppenwolf, loads of Black Sabbath and Status Quo ending with 'Land Of Hope And Glory', honestly!

Then there were the 'Skin heads' Reggae, Reggae and more Reggae, jeans worn with braces and 'Doc Martin' shoes, otherwise known as 'Bovver Boots'!

Next on the social scale were the kids of '60's hippies, Musk oil and petunie oil were the perfumes, long hair and clothes from charity shops except for expensive 'Kaftan' coats were the fashion.

Moving on we had the 'new look' kids, they bought their clothes from 'Dorothy Perkins' and 'Top Girl' and looked lovely, makeup was pastel and sparingly applied.
'Tank Tops', 'Boob Tubes' and 'platform' shoes were their domain!

Well dressed guys wore flowery shirts, flairs, cravattes and wore 'Brut' unless they were 'hippie', jeans and t - shirt were then in favour!

So they were well dressed, usually, and enjoyed good music, that was to change when the 'Punk Years' arrived in the late '70's', but that's a new story!!!

We have two cars in our household and there are only two of us living here. Sometimes we think we ought to try to save a bit of money and get rid of one of the cars because we are both early retired and next month my husband will be able to get a free bus pass. The thing is we do both do quite a lot of different things at different times. I have changed my car to a very small one now and therefore do save on insurance tax and petrol. How cars do you have in your household?

I recently passed my CBT and I started it on a manual but changed to an automatic half way through as I couldn't quite grasp the clutch control. I then really enjoyed the experience of an automatic, but I would like to drive something a bit flashier than a scooter, so I'm curious as to whether there are any automatic motorbikes that aren't scooters and where they're available from?
